Messaging handles
WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, QQ and WeChat on a contact — one click to reach them, where a click is possible.
Plenty of client relationships run somewhere other than email. A contact can hold any number of messaging handles, and each is rendered as a link that opens the conversation.
| Channel | What to enter | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| The full international number | A link that opens the chat | |
| Telegram | The @username | A link that opens the chat |
| The handle, or paste the profile link | A link to the profile | |
| The username, or paste the profile link | A link to the profile | |
| The QQ number | A link that opens a conversation | |
| The WeChat ID | A copy button — see below |
WeChat cannot be a link, and we will not pretend otherwise
There is no supported web address that opens a WeChat chat with an ID — the app expects it to be searched or a QR code scanned. The schemes that circulate work on some phones, do nothing on others, and never work on a desktop. So the ID is shown with a copy button and the reason beside it. A dead link that looks live sends somebody hunting for a fault in your records rather than in the link.
Paste whatever you have
A full profile URL, an @ in front, a number written with brackets and spaces — all of it is accepted and reduced to one stored form. That is what lets the product tell that the same handle has been entered twice, however differently it was typed.
Two refusals worth knowing about
A WhatsApp number without its country code is refused, because that one fails by opening a chat with whoever holds that number elsewhere rather than by failing at all. A phone number in the Telegram field is refused too: there is no Telegram web link that opens a chat by number, so it would save a link that quietly goes nowhere.
More than one of a kind
A personal Instagram and a business one is ordinary, so a contact can hold both, each with a label saying which is which. The same handle twice on one contact is refused — that one is a mistake nobody meant to make.
Do not contact
A contact marked as not to be contacted keeps their handles on the record and loses every link. A link is a button that starts a conversation, and a row of them beside that badge invites exactly the message the status exists to prevent.
What it does not do
- Nothing is sent through these channels from here. They are links out to the app on your own machine; the conversation happens there and is not logged on the timeline.
- The consent and quiet-hours rules do not govern them, because nothing automated goes out over them. Marking somebody do-not-contact is what removes the links.
- Handles are not yet used to spot duplicates, though a WhatsApp number matching another record's phone would be a strong signal.
- Signal, Line, Viber, Discord and Snapchat are not offered — adding one is small, and none has been asked for.
