Getting started
The order to set things up in, and why that order matters.
Most of the configuration is optional and has sensible behaviour when absent — but the first four steps below are not, because everything downstream is scoped by them. This covers the HR half; the work half has far less to set up and is in Setting up work management.
- 1
Create the organisation
This is the tenant boundary. Every record in the product belongs to exactly one, and nothing crosses between them.
- 2
Add your legal entities
One per company that actually employs people. An entity carries its country, its currency and its standard working day — the last of these is what turns stored minutes into the days people read.
- 3
Define working patterns
Which days somebody works and for how long. Without one, a person has no scheduled hours: no capacity, no working-days leave arithmetic, and no cost figure.
- 4
Add holiday calendars
National, regional and company calendars compose rather than compete — a US worker observes federal, state and company days together.
- 5
Add people
Each person needs a first engagement, which is what gives them an entity, a work country and therefore a set of rules. See Adding people.
- 6
Set leave policies
Presets exist for several jurisdictions as starting rows to edit. A tenant with no policy still works — people simply have no entitlement until one is configured.
The standard working day is load-bearing
Entitlements are stored in minutes and rendered as days against the entity's standard working day. Changing it later restates every balance expressed in days across that entity without a single stored minute moving.
