Search
Press `/` — a key jumps, words search, and nothing comes back that you could not open.
/ or Ctrl+K opens search from anywhere. It covers work items, comments, attachment filenames, projects, initiatives, releases and people. See Getting around for the rest of the navigation.
A key is a jump, not a search term
Typing HLX-142 means you know what you want. That is lifted straight to the top rather than matched as a phrase — otherwise the one right answer sits under everything that happens to mention it. A key inside a sentence is treated as ordinary text, because somebody writing about an item is searching rather than jumping.
How results are ordered
An exact key, then a key prefix, then a title that matches exactly, then one that starts with what you typed, then a match at a word boundary, then anywhere in the title, then a description. The bands are deliberately far apart: a near-tie between the key you typed and a description mentioning it is not a close call to be broken by a tiebreaker.
A description match shows the sentence it matched, so you can see why a result is in the list. A description hit with no excerpt is indistinguishable from a false positive.
Search cannot see past the access rules
Every source is gated on the permission its own screen is gated on, and people are searched by directory fields only. An item title routinely names a customer, a defect or a person, and a result list is a very efficient way to read a hundred of them.
What it does not read
- Comments and attachments.
- Any HR data beyond the directory — nothing from the personal or compensation classes goes near it.
- Custom field values.
