Reporting
Headcount, turnover, absence and cost — computed together so the lines agree with each other.
The workforce report computes headcount, turnover, absence and cost in one pass, deliberately. Figures pulled from separate queries seconds apart disagree with each other, and a report whose lines do not add up is worse than no report.
Definitions that are easy to get wrong
- Turnover divides by average headcount
- Opening plus closing, halved — not closing. Published benchmarks use the average, and a rate computed any other way is not comparable to anything.
- Opening headcount is measured the day before the period
- Otherwise that day's joiners land in both the denominator and the joiner count.
- Absence is a share of scheduled minutes
- Not of calendar time — otherwise every part-timer looks chronically absent.
- Sickness is reported separately from total absence
- Annual leave is not a problem to be managed down.
- Cost is per currency and never converted
- People with no compensation in force, or hourly staff with no pattern, are counted and surfaced rather than dropped.
Two engagements are one person
Headcount counts one head and sums FTE. Breakdowns by entity, department or country attribute to the primary engagement so they still add to the total, while cost emits one line per engagement.
Somebody employed with no engagement row is a data gap: they are counted in the total and shown as unassigned, never silently dropped.
