Dependants

Family members whose residency expires on its own schedule.

A dependant's residency expires independently of the sponsor's, and nobody is reminded by the dependant themselves — so these are the expiries that get missed. Each is judged on their own nationality and their own documents.

  • A visa waiver is time-limited. An exemption usually runs a fixed period from entry and resets on re-entry. Treating every exemption as open-ended means somebody stops being lawfully present with no warning at all.
  • A pending application is tracked separately from current status. Both are true at once whenever somebody is covered today by one thing while an application for another is in flight — and the application is the part somebody has to chase.
  • An appeal keeps a family resident. That is answered before any date arithmetic.
  • Not required needs evidence, not inference. Where nationality is unrecorded the answer is *unknown*, never the comfortable guess.

Paying for more dependants than are recorded is normal

A record exists for somebody who needs a visa or a policy; an allowance is paid per child regardless. Deriving one from the other either underpays the employee or invents people no details are held for. Only paying for fewer than are recorded is worth a question.
